Olbermann Speaks Again

I seem to keep going on about American politics even though I’m sitting up here in Canada, but the truth remains that Canada has always faced the threat of falling in line with American political dogma through populism regardless of right or wrong. This is especially true now that we have a Prime Minister who is apparently the only world leader left that thinks our nation can be modeled after the United States.

We have different laws in Canada but we have similar values. It scares the hell out of me to see a Prime Minister here who thinks he can do a more cunning job than a man who failed his nation on security, propagated an unjust war based on lies and betrayed his electorate by denying them Habeas Corpus.

I don’t want to see this in Canada, Harper’s dreams of following the American ideal are out of date and naïve but ultimately I can see him doing something like this because he doesn’t have the vision to see Canada as a nation capable of independence from outside influences.

It’s taken long enough for people in the US like Keith Olbermann to speak up like he’s doing now. Canada can’t be so stupid as to follow a path that has already proven itself wrong and is being rejected by the very nation that started it.

The US is starting to turn around and realize that Democracy wins over ideology. I hate the thought that Canadian leaders can’t understand that after all the ideological failures of the last six years, they still think they can do a better job than people who have already proven themselves wrong.

Hat tip to JJ at unrepentant old hippie for the vid.
