I sense a theme going on after my post yesterday about less than honest Christians.
The buzz around these here Internet tube things seems to be that Dr. (if indeed he is) Charles McVety might not be everything he says he is. Why am I not surprised?
Before I get too into Christian bashing as it seems I am often wont to do, there are some good ones out there who understand that faith shouldn't be squandered on self-confirmation of social bias and political ambitions.
These people are; and this is a short list, but the ones I've been reading lately:
Bene Diction, for pointing out what he knew all along and challenging others to confirm it, YaYa Canada for offering some genuine insight, backed up with not a small amount of research, toujoursdan at Culture Choc for even more great research, and Bill Kinnon at Achievable Ends for bringing it all home.
Then of course we have my heathen Gal Pal JJ suggesting that the Canadian media could do a little more research before they introduce Chuckie as "Dr.".
I don't really have much to add to the conversation except that if you represent yourself as a Christian and you have to lie to achieve your ends, then perhaps the ends you seek to achieve are less than Christian. I don't care if you betray your own idea of faith but you certainly betray the faith of good, honest people who in all likely hood would be much better off without you.
I have never questioned that there is much good that can be realized from faith, When properly practiced, it's actually one of those great things that Humans can do to enrich everyone's lives.
But when faith is used by liars to put down people like me and others, and I can assure you I live a much more honest life than Chuckie -- at least I make it clear who I am in the face of possible discrimination -- it diminishes all of the great tradition of faith. It cheapens humanity.
Canada's Fourth Estate seems to be asleep at the wheel on this. We need more lions.
